Calling all young engineers, astronauts, explorers, makers, and problem solvers!
In 2018, Chabot Space and Science Center will offer summer camps with four different science and engineering themes. Designed for students entering grades 1-6, each week-long camp will provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences combining science, engineering, and outdoor explorations to develop problem-solving skills as well as science understanding.
Campers will navigate a range of indoor and outdoor activities led by Chabot instructors, all taking place inside Chabot’s science labs, classrooms, and museum spaces as well as outdoors in Redwood Regional Park. Our camps are designed to be active and highly engaging. Alignment to the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards provides skills to support learning during the school year.
Camp should be fun and educational. Camp at a science museum should be even more engaging and unique. As scientists, we believe that challenges and problems are the best learning opportunities, curiosity is a valuable asset worth cultivating, and creativity can be used everywhere. We learn through real world tools, materials, and experiences. Our camps cultivate science understanding and the necessary teamwork, problem solving, and inventiveness to grow our next generation of scientists and engineers.
“My daughter absolutely loved this camp and was filled with information and experience to share with me on the ride home everyday!!! A+++”
“My son struggled academically and socially... by Wednesday he made friends and wanted camp for the rest of his life. I can’t convey how much this experience means to us.”
"The program was very well structured and we had an amazing time! Thank you so much! You made it a real adventure for my daughter!"
"Thanks for putting together such a fun experience! I've got a future astrophysicists on my hands and he got his start at Chabot!"
"This was such a creative and wonderful experience for our son. We would recommend it to anyone."
"This program was truly AWESOME! My children were over the moon about what they were doing and so excited to go back the next day… so much learning... so much fun!"

Live out a weeklong mission to Mars! Travel through space and survive on another planet to rescue a stranded scientist. Working in teams, you will tackle challenges, including surviving in space, landing on Mars, exploring the planet, setting up communication, and conducting search and rescue.
This original and immersive experience features daily in-depth science activities, engineering challenges, and outdoor explorations, all woven around an exciting storyline. Each day, a piece of the story will be revealed through multimedia presentations and video, as students discover vital scientific information and communicate with the lost scientist.
Mars Adventure was extremely popular last year. Sign up early to reserve your seat on this non-stop adventure!
June 25-29, July 16-20
You and a group of NASA scientists have been selected to be the first engineers to live on the Moon! Design, build, and test solutions for traveling to and surviving on a permanent Moon base while learning mission critical background information. Throughout the mission, you will use the engineering design process to identify landing sites, discover useful resources on the Moon’s surface, and build rockets, robots, and Moon rovers. Like all engineers, we will work together, learn from our mistakes, and constantly improve our designs!
This engineering-focused camp provides opportunities to engage in hands-on engineering projects that bring the adventure of space exploration to life. The camp will culminate in a lunar engineering exhibition.
July 2-6*, July 23-27, July 30-August 3
Start innovating and unleash your creativity with Camp Create! Come use real tools to create high-tech and low-tech projects allowing your imagination to run wild. Inspired by Chabot’s new Project Create exhibit, makers of all skills and abilities will enjoy tinkering, problem solving, and collaborating. Camp Create will culminate in a project showcase.
Camp Create extends way beyond the activities in our brand new Project Create exhibit. Sample activities include sewable circuits, recycled materials derby, cardboard arcade, jewelry making, and more!
July 2-6*, July 9-13, July 23-27
Planet Earth needs your help! Show others how to take care of our home planet by creating stop-motion animations that educate and inspire creative solutions to global challenges. Explore climate science, green energy production, and redwood ecology.
Using iPads, campers of all abilities will learn to use video and audio tools and apply them to character development, storytelling, and science concepts. Small teams will work on collaborative projects from conception to post-production. The weeklong camp will culminate in a mini-film festival.
This course is being redesigned using tools and materials from previous animation workshops. The sample videos feature previous student work.
